Democracy is a political system in which citizens take a direct part in electing their candidates. It is the a governing system in which political parties with a majority have the right to govern the country. They form governments and govern the nation with public support. First, democracy was defined by the grand political leader, Abram Lincoln, as a form of government "by the people, for the people and the people." Since then, many nations have followed the practice of democracy in different parts of the world.
Freedom, equality and human rights are the founding principles of democracy. All are equal before the law and have equal access to education, health, work and other opportunities.Power is widely separated in the organs and offices of the government. Decentralization and public involvement are encouraged to the extent that the State aims to promote public welfare. The election of officials indicates that only effective and popular candidates come to power and do good to the nation. Even the minority is valued within democracy. This Liberty, equality and human rights are the basic principles of democracy. All are equal before the law and have equal access to educational, health, labor and other opportunities. Even the minority is duly valued in democracy. This republic, also the head of state, is an elected representative. For instance, the USA has a federal, republican or presidential system of government, while Bhutan has units, monarchy and parliamentary system. Nepal has a federal, republican, and a parliamentary system of government.
Joint modern democracy is parliamentary or presidential, restricted monarchy or republic, unitary or federal. In parliamentary democracy such as Great Britain, India and Nepal, the Prime Minister, the executive leader, is elected by and accountable to the legislator. In the presidential system, the President, who is the executive chief, is elected directly by the people. The unitary system of democracy is run by the all-powerful central government, whereas the federal democracy has a clear-cut division of power between the two sets of government -central and local or provincial.
The monarchical, democratic system has hereditary state head -king or queen who exercises only constitutional power as a nominal ruler where the real power rests with the elected prime minister while in Democracy is 'the system of government where people's involvement is comparatively more in choosing the type of governments. It is the government that provides free speech, political activity and equality. Everyone has a right to do the work he likes to do. There is no restriction by the government. The government works on the verdict of peoples' mandate. The people have rights to accept or object the plans and activities of the government. There is the rule of the law in the society, and everybody is equal before the rule.
They call elections the backbone of democracy. The party system and regular elections are two essential elements of democracy. That's why adult citizens have universal suffrage and take part in elections to choose his best candidate. The legislative and executive are elected by them directly or indirectly. They keep control over the government even after elections. Representatives are accountable to their constituents; otherwise, they may lose public confidence and be eliminated in the next election. There is provision of the ruling party and opposition parties a democracy. The party in the majority may rule and those in the minority are in opposition, playing a constructive role in favor of the people. This practice prevents the ruling party from turning autocratic.
