Dashain, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the greatest festival in Nepal.  It is one of the biggest and longest festival celebrated by Nepal origin hindus all over the world. It mostly falls in the month of Ashwin (September/October). Ashwin is the month of happiness which brings joy and smiles on the face of all the Nepalese people. At this time all the private Institutions as well as government institutions remain closed. Dashain is celebrated for 10-15 days from the new moon day which is also called as Ghatasthapana to the full moon day called as kojagrat Purnima.  during these days people who are far away from home get a time to visit their place.  It is a festival of delight, great excitement and interest and overwhelming happiness .

The time of the Dashain is very Rapture and the weather is fair and mild and there is no more dust any longer in the roads. Farmers are getting rest and relief from their tiring season of plantation. Festival came to the light wind Goddess Durga won fight against and evil spirited demon called "Mahishasur" who spread fear and terror among the people. 

At Dashain, we celebrate virtue's victory over vice, truth over untruth, and justice over injustice. During the first nine days, Nawa Durga, the goddess of power and victory, is worshipped with great devotion. Temples dedicated to the goddess Durga are always packed with devotees. Chandi, a story of victory achieved by gods over devils in Satya Yuga, is recited for its sacredness and sanctity. After worshipping Goddess Durga, Lord Rama is believed to have achieved victory during the Treta Yuga. During the vacation festival, Vijayadashami, the tenth day of the celebration, is the main day. It is a day when people are blessed by their seniors and given red tika, jamara, and blessings. Red tika is a symbol of both fortune and victory in Hindu culture.

Dashain is also the time of family gatherings and feasts. During this season, people who are abroad return to their homes or countries. People visit their family and put their disputes and misunderstandings behind them. Children especially enjoy this festival because it gives them almost 30 days of vacation, excellent food, the chance to see their cousins, and new clothes. The senior family members typically give them cash in the form of Dakshina, a type of gift and blessing. Families gather, set up an amazing gala, and some participate in games. In the villages, strong bamboo swings are also created for recreation. The sky is filled with kites and is colorful as a result of kite flying. People adorn new clothing and consume meat, beaten rice, chocolates, spices, and sel roti. Malshree music is playing. As a result, this celebration strongly represents Nepali lifestyle.

Dashain is a celebration of benevolence as well. Best wishes and greetings from both their own and sponsored sources are broadcast or published by media like radio, television, and newspapers. At Tundikhel in Kathmandu, shots are fired together with the showering of flowers. Common people have a custom of receiving tika from the nation's head of state.

Dashain, however, promotes some sins. The celebration is celebrated by many people in a grand manner. Celebrations are often expensive. Arguments, confrontations, and accidents are frequently caused by excessive drinking and gambling. Dashain doesn't provide joy to the poor. They find it quite challenging to pay for the customary festivities. Some people's excesses cause them to go bankrupt. The goddess has received some fantastic sacrifices. Accidents, food poisoning, and indigestion are common human tragedies. Numerous crimes, including as pickpocketing, robberies, and stealing, occur before Dashain. Prices in the market frequently increase the day before and the night of the festival.
